Sell your damaged Ford

Ford's South African picture is really the Ranger's picture. The bakkie is built at Silverton, sells in enormous numbers and does hard work on farms, mines, construction sites and long tar routes, so it dominates the damaged Fords we are asked to buy. Around it sits a large tail of Fiesta, Figo and EcoSport passenger cars, many of them bought second-hand by owners who cannot absorb a repair bill. A written-off Ranger is a different proposition to a written-off hatchback: even after a serious accident there is a drivetrain and a set of running gear that the market actively wants.

Ford models we buy damaged

These are the Ford models we are asked about most, but we buy every Ford model and derivative — including ones not listed here.

Damage we see on Ford vehicles

Rollovers and single-vehicle gravel accidents are the signature Ranger and Everest damage pattern, leaving roof, pillar and door skins destroyed while the engine, gearbox and diffs survive intact. Fiesta and EcoSport files read differently: front-end collisions where the airbag module, bumper, bonnet and cooling pack together exceed a modest book value. Fire-damaged Kugas still surface occasionally and we buy those too.

We buy Ford vehicles with accident damage, flood damage, hail damage, mechanical failure and non-runners, as well as insurance write-offs coded Code 2, Code 3 or Code 4.

What your damaged Ford is worth

Ranger demand is the engine of Ford salvage pricing in this country. The 2.2 and 3.2 Duratorq and the newer 2.0 bi-turbo, along with gearboxes, transfer cases, diffs, load bins and doors, all find buyers fast, and Everest shares much of that hardware. Passenger-car demand is thinner but reliable on lamps, panels and bolt-on trim.

We buy Ford models across every year — older high-mileage vehicles right through to current-shape cars only a year or two old. Age matters far less than what the vehicle is worth intact and how sought-after its parts are, so it is always worth asking.

Before you sell

If you are not sure how your Ford has been coded after a write-off, or what you are legally allowed to sell, read Code 2, 3 and 4 vehicles and write-offs explained. You can also browse every brand we buy.
